When Russia illegally and without provocation invaded Ukraine they had the second best military in Ukraine. Ukraine has substantially gutted the Russian military. Picking a fight with NATO would be very different to picking a fight with Ukraine. Very where in Russia, especially its major cities becomes a target. The Baltic is easily closed to all Russia bound shipping. The Black Sea becomes a NATO lake. Vladivostok and Murmansk are blockaded and pounded. Most of Russia is a sparsely populated wasteland.Russia becomes a no fly zone. Russia is incapable of feeding itself.
