Title: Unraveling Alzheimer's: Guam's Mystery and a Promising New Approach

In the tiny Pacific island of Guam, a unique neurological disorder, known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis-Parkinsonism-Dementia Complex (ALS-PDC), has puzzled researchers for decades. Affecting a significant portion of the island's Chamorro population, this condition shares similarities with Alzheimer's disease, yet its cause remained elusive. However, recent studies have shed light on this medical mystery, potentially paving the way for a novel approach to combat Alzheimer's.

The ALS-PDC, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease with Parkinsonism and dementia, is characterized by a combination of motor neuron degeneration, Parkinsonism, and cognitive decline. The condition's prevalence in Guam, particularly among the indigenous Chamorro population, is significantly higher than in any other population worldwide.

Researchers have long suspected environmental factors, such as diet or toxins, might be responsible for this unique disorder. A break

  • The body can adapt to any food and its quantity, to treatment, to lifestyle and habits. But… the owner of the organism may not like this adaptation. Be content with little. What doesn't kill us makes us weaker.

  • My heartfelt thanks to those scientists who work tirelessly to find a glimmer of hope in retreating all diseases, Alzheimer's especially. If they can cure/treat ALS, wow. They've made strides with the lymphoma diseases, too. All i can say is support your local science teachers and classrooms. Those kids will carry on the work and save more lives. The Nobel prize would help tremendously pay for more research…

researcher: “do you still eat a lot of <shows picture of edamame> everyday?”

    Japanese person: 🙄

  • The Japanese and other Asian cultures have had and maintained an enormous body of knowledge about the effects of all the different foods we consume. When a patient visits a doctor, food is always discussed and practical remedies are offered. Nutrition is also taught in public school, starting in primary school. Here in the west, we don’t even teach this to doctors, and they aren’t capable of addressing the effects of food on their patients. We also feed children heaps of ultra-processed foods in the public schools. This is incredibly ignorant on our part given that this knowledge has been accumulated and passed down for millennia. It’s time the authorities and influencers of policy started moving in the right direction.

  • Yes SYMPTOMS (plaques & tangles)
This alone to get thru to the AMA is huge!

  • L serine just appears out of nowhere in this narrative. No explanation whatsoever of why L serine, out of the millions of substances on earth. For that matter, how was the link to cyanobacteria made exactly, and what is the actual evidence that this is linked to Alzheimer's? Terrible reporting, at least as represented here. More questions than answers.

  • This researcher helps to restore my faith in humanity.

This man is a true ambassador for science and I’m thankful for his and his teammates efforts!

  • They're pumping Alzheimer's into the waters in Florida, then…. Thanks for sharing.

  • This may help. but considering our own country. why would 2 people living in the same house for 52 yrs, eating the same food,
not Both get Alzheimers? My mother, 83, died of it. My Dad didn't have & died at 90.Now a friends Mom is 80, and she's got it, her husband doesn.t. I hear of this over & over. I'm sorry, but maybe in Guan….?

  • I am a native Pacific Islander neuroscientist who grew up near Guam and trained at Harvard Medical School. I have been following Paul’s research in the Pacific because my ancestors practiced indigenous medicine. I gave an interview on indigenous medicine in Pacific Island Magazine. We need to build an indigenous medical research center in the Pacific.

  • Thank you! Looking forward for successful research. I hope this Dr receives an extraordinary support for this extensive research.

  • Very significant findings for Florida, where blue-green algae in polluted water is a major problem.

  • The major cause of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and all degenerative brain diseases is lack of minerals and saturated fat. A nutritional deficiency. Poisons from fruit bats are not afflicting most people. This is far different. It's poisoning. The cure for this will not cure regular Alzheimer's. It's your diet. High carb low fat diet is deficient in minerals for the brain. Need high fat because the brain is made of 80% saturated fat.

  • Awesome Discovery get it done Now in Amurica ,even the younger Generations are getting Batty

  • ON Guam. Guam is a small island. WHO writes this garbage? Smdh

  • This was disvovered years ago. Read The End Of Alzheimers by Dale Bredesen. There 50 possible causes and counting of the plaque in the brain. Trest and teat these factors, Alzheimer's disappears.

  • Wait, does this mean all blue-green algae is toxic or just some or just parts?
Does anyone reading this with an appropriate background know? Spirulina and chlorella have been popular supplements for decades for good reasons. Are there bad sides to these types of blue-green algae?

  • Good work, there, on Guam, and thank you, Sanjay, for your great reporting. I am still plant based after seeing your broadcast about preventing heart disease. I recommend playing it again.

  • I, for one, will definitely stay tuned. And it certainly can’t hurt to eat more of those foods in the meantime, especially the plant-based sources.

  • Yes…we need to stop eating bats. They are unclean & not fit for human consumption. See Leviticus 11 in the bible for a detailed list of acceptable vs. unacceptable foods to eat…bats are specifically mentioned as unclean in vs. 19. 🙂🕊️

  • Thank God the island didn't tip over with the air base that Hank Johnson was so concerned about. Thank God for Democrats like him for keeping the island flat and moored in the ocean.
