Title: China's South China Sea Aggression Pushes Philippines Closer to U.S.
In the realm of international relations, a significant shift is underway as China's aggressive actions in the South China Sea are driving the Philippines closer to the United States. This development, a response to China's territorial disputes and militarization in the region, is a new development in the ongoing geopolitical tussle.
The Philippines, a Southeast Asian nation, has historically maintained a delicate balance between its relations with China and the U.S. However, China's persistent encroachment on disputed territories and its militarization of artificial islands have led the Philippines to reconsider its strategic alliances.
The U.S., a long-standing ally of the Philippines, has been vocal in its opposition to China's actions in the South China Sea. The U.S. has reiterated its commitment to uphold freedom of navigation and overflight, principles that are being challenged by China's assertive behavior.
This shift in the Philippines' foreign policy is not merely a reaction to China's actions but also a reflection of the Philippines' growing discomfort with China's increasing assertiveness. The Philippines, under President Rodrigo Duterte, has been trying to improve relations with China, but China's actions have made this task increasingly difficult.
The U.S., on the other hand, has been a consistent ally of the Philippines, providing military aid and training. The U.S. has also been a strong advocate for the rule of law in the South China Sea, a stance that resonates with the Philippines.
In conclusion, China's aggressive actions in the South China Sea are pushing the Philippines closer to the U.S. This shift is a response to China's territorial disputes and militarization in the region and reflects the Philippines' growing discomfort with China's increasing assertiveness. The U.S., as a long-standing ally of the Philippines, is well-positioned to strengthen its ties with the Philippines in the face of China's aggression.

Stop calling it the South China Sea. It is the South Asian Sea.
Philippine Sea is a largest sea in the world. But Filipinos didn't claim all
China is strong and US is a narcissistic friend..so what can you do..?
It's actually working out for China. China will start a dispute claiming majority of the land/sea and in the end as an mutual agreement china will take small part of that country. Move on to next country and slowly expanding China's territory.
They are harassing not filipino only also Vietnam and other neighboring territory.
What a steaming pile of BS. The SCS islands and atolls have historically been Chinese territory.
The Philippines elected the son of the worst corrupt dictator who continues to sell the Filipinos out for profits. The Unashamed Syndicate of Arsonists is his Svengali, impounding his inheritance as hostage.
The Americans have a weak leadership. The Chinese are exploiting this.
Before 1949 when Republic of China claimed the 9 dash line in the SCS. USA was ok with it. Until the US policy pivot to Asia in 2010, the Phillipines are claiming now part of it with support of the USA. This is double standard policy.
You know I find it kind of odd. On the side of the Chinese coast guard boat. It is written chinese coast guard in english not in chines Same with the philippines coast guard written in english
Bite'me hasn't proven to be a reliable ally!🙄
Pretty snotty "journalist" but what do we expect from the Lol Street Journal.
Be more respectful to our military!
Philippine is the one that uses deadly force on others. It’s the Philippine Coast Guard that had shot to death a Taiwanese fisherman in 2013 in the near Taiping Island which is an island administered by Taiwan. Also, Philippines also stole Taiwan’s Zhongye Dao/Thitu Island during a storm. However, China has not shoot to death anyone over the incidents between China and Philippines. In addition, two Vietnamese fishermen died in 2017 in a tragic incident with the Philippine Navy.
Philippine intent to steal Chinese territories near Second Thomas Shoal and Scarborough Shoal. Philippine vessels have made multiple and continuous intrusions for the last 20 plus years into Chinese territories near Second Thomas Shoal and Scarborough Shoal. Philippine have tried to transport construction material to the illegally shipwrecked Sierra Madre outpost for reinforcement on-site or near it. Philippines had already seized Taiwan’s Zhongye Dao/Thitu Island during a storm.
Each China Coast Guard action is an enforcement operation in response to at least one or more intrusions and violations of China’s territorial sovereignty.
So, China is not the one doing the “threats.”
China always harassing pilipino
Coast guards and enjoying thier deeds . Then they're ignored always thier deeds that they don't do.
Despite the ongoing situation, we still need China as the ally of the Philippines for further good governance, industrialization and world peace.
I shall return!
Why is China angry they are trying to make the south China sea claim it as there own they have no right at all I’m getting tired of hearing what they deem illegal sorry does not work that way
It is a proper way to handle the Philippines provocation Philippines' Micky Mouse coast guard and navy warships are no match to Chinese forces. The US has no nerve to fight China, another super power.
Absolutely? I bet he will ran away when war started.
Why China dont follow US and apply trade sanctions? Why still support her adversary? Sgould follow US.
The weakness of the Philippines is not the reason for the sovereignty of the South China Sea.
As it’s called SouthChinaSea,so it’s China’s right to protect our sea.The invader is Philippine.
Just do DIALOGUE please
NO to WAR please-my opinion❤GIVE LOVE n PEACE a CHANCE❤
The Chinese communist party is the problem here! Don’t forget it
Thank you for taking this topic out. Everyone should know.
absolutely NOT
Philippines claiming a disputed island with a rusty ship is hardly any international order.
Your international court is a joke, these islands belongs to China after WW2, when Japan surrendered these islands as well as Taiwan to China, Philippine occupied these islands along with several other countries like Vietnam and Malaysia when Taiwanese troop retreats.
A communist Party who hates imperialism with very imperialistic tendency
china has right to defend
China didn't called it the South China Sea. It was the European Colonisers who called it South China Sea!" As for the West Philippines Sea it was Hillary Clinton who first called it as such …
Thanks USA for supporting the Philippine agains arrogance and harassing from other country whose not following the rules and international laws..
