China Snaps at PM Modi’s Response to Taiwan, Slams West for “Overcapacity” | Vantage with Palki Sharma China has triggered …

Title: China Rebukes Modi's Taiwan Response, Criticizes Western Countries for Taiwan Strait Tensions

In the context of escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait, China has strongly rebuked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response to Taiwan's independence, accusing Western countries of fueling the crisis.

On Monday, during a meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, Modi expressed support for Taiwan's democracy and its people's right to decide their future. This statement, while not explicitly endorsing Taiwan's independence, marked a shift in India's traditional stance of neutrality towards the Taiwan issue.

In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated, "India should abide by the one-China principle and not send wrong signals to the 'Taiwan independence' forces." He further criticized Western countries for selling arms to Taiwan, exacerbating tensions in the region.

This exchange comes amid increasing tensions between China and Taiwan, with China conducting military drills near Taiwan following a visit by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier this month. The U.S. has been a key supporter of Taiwan's defense, selling billions of dollars worth of arms to the island nation.

The newsworthy aspect of this article is the direct criticism by China towards India for its shift in stance towards Taiwan. This development could have implications for India-China relations, particularly in the context of their ongoing border disputes. It also underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the Taiwan Strait, with the U.S. and China both seeking to assert their influence in the region.
