The fact is, the tension between the settlers and Palestinians, has hardly seen the Palestinians blameless. Also, it's hard to be friends with someone who has, since childhood, been taught to want you dead. And that you are the devil.
This is the Arab world, far more so than the State of Israel proper, which is modern and Western. (And their population is 20% Arab). In the Arab world, which is not Christian, playing "turn the other cheek" will find you beaten to death, in an alley. They view it as weakness.
You can see that in the peacenik kibbutz, now butchered, dead by Hamas, Oct 7th. Their peace slogans were still on their refrigerators, as they fell.
