Title: Reflecting on the Upcoming 'The Go-Go's' Documentary: A Nostalgic Journey Through the Lens of Music and Feminism
As a child of the '80s, the news of the upcoming documentary 'The Go-Go's' on Showtime has stirred a wave of nostalgia and excitement within me. The trailer offers a tantalizing glimpse into the lives of the groundbreaking all-female band, whose music was an integral part of my formative years.
The Go-Go's, with their unique blend of punk, new wave, and pop, were more than just a band; they were a symbol of female empowerment and independence. Their success in a male-dominated industry was a testament to their resilience and talent, paving the way for future generations of female musicians.
The documentary promises to delve deep into the band's history, exploring the highs and lows, the friendships and feuds, the triumphs and tribulations that shaped this iconic group. It is a journey I am eager to embark on, not just as a fan, but also as a woman who has been inspired by the Go-Go's and the women who came before and after them.
Personally, the Go-Go's have been a source of inspiration. Their music has soundtracked many moments of my life, from carefree teenage years to moments of introspection and growth. Their story, filled with struggles and triumphs, resonates deeply with me, reminding me of the power of perseverance and the importance of following one's dreams.
The upcoming documentary is not just a celebration of the Go-Go's, but also a tribute to the spirit of the '80s, a time when music was a powerful force for change and expression. It is a reminder of the impact that music can have on our lives, shaping our identities, our values, and our dreams.
In a world where gender inequality still persists, the story of the Go-Go's is more relevant than ever. Their journey serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for women everywhere, proving that with determination, talent, and a little bit of rebellion, anything is possible.
I eagerly await the release of 'The Go-Go's' documentary

I was 12 years old when the Go-Go's came out. What a tremendous impact they had on me. They were Girls Power.
These chicks rock and the lead has my pitter padder to this day in 2022.
I saw them at a concert in Birmingham with the Flock of Seagulls as their open. It was the most fun I ever had with my clothes on. We danced so much we were covered in sweat and then we walked outside to a drenching rainstorm. It was everything you could hope for in a concert and more.
2:15 Rock in Rio 1985, i was there and they were fantastic!
Thank You Go Go's. 🎶🎧🌹
Not one more beautiful than the other, I would've done almost anything to be with any one of them back in 1982 when I graduated High School.
It's one thing to be pretty, but all five were beautiful, funny, sexy, and most of all REALLY talented and lost on most people of my generation, very intelligent.
Great band!
The Runaways
where can i watch this?
I always thought Jane Wiedlin the dark haired guitarist was drop dead beautiful. She still is today.
Love the Go-gos (hated interviewing them …never meet your idols). But what I really hate is how folks on this comment section all have to add Female or Girl in front of band. Like, did you miss the whole point? They were a great band. No-one ever says Duran Duran was a great boy band…just say BAND.
When did Pricilla Presley join the Go-Go's?
I'd give the documentary a two or three (out of five) star rating. In my view it mostly rehashes themes already explored in the sometimes superior VH1's Behind the Music episode and didn't really dig much deeper and explore or reveal many new insights about the band and it's history. Early footage of the Go Go's live shows is fairly minimal and at times the documentary attempts way too hard to portray the band as feminist trailblazers and heroines (as well as victims of the so-called "patriarchy"), in a rather transparent and calculated attempt for induction into the RRHOF later that year. Furthermore, heavy emphasis is focused upon the band's wildly successful 1st album (which both fans and the general public is likely already well aware of) with scant attention paid to subsequent releases, regardless of their critical or artistic merit.
love the Go Go's but not the first all girl band to write there own material and be successful. the Runaways have them beat
Listening to the Go-Gos turns a bad day around.
Ran into Belinda Baby after a concert in Maryland at a Dennys and we had a vacation at her hotel
They were and are the greatest all girl group. Welcome to the Hall ladies!
2021. They're new song Club Zero rules!
Just watched this documentary. It was fascinating and so well done. If you have even the slightest interest in the Go-Go’s, I’d highly recommend it.
Absolutely love this band, we used to do heavier punk versions of their hit songs. Like so many other Gen-Exer teen boys, I had a massive crush on Belinda Carlisle.
Class of ‘88 here more of a hard rocker but always had a soft spot for the Go Go’s…
Stop saying top all girl group, they're a damn great band period!
I totally remember how much everybody loved watching the "OUR LIPS ARE SEALED" video on MTV.
You gotta admit though movies and their soundtracks were huge in the 80s as well and the song “ We Got The Beat “ by The Go Gos got more known and popularity from the movie Fast Times At Ridgemount High too., Which im sure as an all women band back then starting out that helped definitely put them more recognizable on the map of Go Gos fans and their success.
That’s rad.
Such a good band.
Terrific songs.
This doc unfortunately didnt tell us anything different than what Behind The Music did. Fans deserved a better documentary
2:10 Not sure if this interview was taken before the band disbanded? But judging from Jane's hairstyle, it was probably during that period. It felt like Belinda was thinking about hosting’s question. And Jane suddenly held Charlotte‘s neck, as if there was some conflict between the two. Could it be related to copyright issues? Kathy looked at the three of them with nervous and anxious eyes. The only thing Gina does is enjoy herself. Of course, the above are all my guesses.😊
1:55 Kathy’s smile is so beautiful 😍
2:10 charlotte is so cute, her smile is funny.😆
I wanna watch that scene where charlotte comes up with the twilight zone
1:11 I heard Rodney, KROQ
Heard "vacation" on the radio today… totally took me back to my teenage years! Love them
och nu såg några jävligt plastik ut😂😂
Saw the one late night on TV there are more Punk We Got the Beat was a lot faster a lot heavier so I got the 45 of that song from England and it was a really really good then they came here to America and America turned him into a regular pop band which to me wasn't that great so I'm just glad I had that 45 to remember they were once a really good punk band that was very fast and very heavy
I asked my dad (Who grew up listening to rock and metal) "Who's the Greatest Female Band of All-Time" He answered without a second breath "Oh, fuckin the Go-Gos! They lit the world on fire!!"
Fantastic documentary
The documentary that was made to shame the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame into FINALLY recognizing them after completely pretending they didn't exist*….AND IT WORKED!!!
* In 2011 the Hall had a special exhibit called Women Who Rock and they didn't included a single item or mention of The Go-Go's. They had Lady Gaga's preserved meat dress and an outfit Sheryl Crow wore on a red carpet (not even something from an album cover like they had from Chrissie Hynde and Joan Jett), but for the Go-Go's, zip, zilch, nada. This was five years after they were first eligible and Jann Wenner's bitter animosity towards them for their lack of appreciation over being portrayed as bimbo sex objects in Rolling Stone was still in full effect. Jerk! Who's laughing now, loser!
