The potential for compatibility issues, the necessity of a new power supply, and the financial implications of such a transition are not insignificant factors.

Personally, I find myself in a unique position. I am currently using an older AMD system, and while it still serves my needs, I have been considering an upgrade. The AM5 platform seemed like a promising option, offering the latest in CPU technology. However, the article has made me question whether the benefits outweigh the potential costs and inconveniences.

For instance, the need for a new power supply is a significant consideration. While it's not a deal-breaker, it does add to the overall cost and complexity of the upgrade. Moreover, the potential for compatibility issues with existing components could lead to unexpected expenses and frustration.

The article also highlights the importance of future-proofing our tech investments. While the AM5 platform may offer cutting-edge performance now, it's unclear how it will fare in the long run. Will it be supported for several years, or will we find ourselves in the same position in a few years, considering another upgrade?

In conclusion, while the AM5 platform offers exciting possibilities, it's crucial to approach it with caution. The article serves as a valuable reminder to consider all factors before making a decision. For me, it has prompted a reevaluation of my upgrade plans. I will continue to monitor developments and make an informed decision when the time is right.

In our personal lives, technology upgrades can often feel like a necessary evil. We want the latest and greatest, but we also want to avoid unnecessary costs and complications. The AM5 platform presents an opportunity, but it's an opportunity that requires careful consideration. As the article suggests, it's not

  • Juli 2024, everything tells me the Am5 socket wil be the next thing for the next few years to come. Am4 is heading out faster and faster and are rapidly going out of date👍🏻🤜🏻

  • Jay should do a follow up video to this where you try to gauge whether to go on AM5 yet, with such strong support for AM4 ongoing.

  • Lol, AM4 is dead. Fast forward to a year later and several new AM4 chips are being released, the big one being the R7 5700x3d

  • I was an early adopter of AM4. Lets say I was getting 50FPS on my games. Recently bought a late generation AM4 cpu that got me to 70FPS in games three years later. And there are better AM4 CPU that I could have gotten for 80FPS in my games. Point being, that I am going to wait until 2026 to do a full AM5 build.

  • The is relevant aging now the intel 15th gen (new socket) and amd 8000 are coming soon hopefully at the beginning of Q2. However, the jump from a FX-6350 to a ryzen 1600 was a gamechanger. but, i don't see the reason to upgrade from at 3600, 5600 (I use both) to a 7600. I and upgrading next year yet I am on the fence.

  • So, it's been over a year. And am5 has already had a new batch after the first come out (I think?) Still on am4 r7 5800x (5ghz all core pbo) 3800c14 flat (bdie 😉 ) MSI b550 gaming edge, anyway. How would you feel about this now? Seems like it's a better option, but at the same time the 58003dx for games is on par since no new board or ram is needed. Let alone the systems already tuned for the most part. So again, update on this?

  • This is when cutting edge becomes bleeding edge – it's so cutting edge that it will hurt you.

I last built in 2020 (pandemic made me wish for a new pc) with a 3800X (released at the end of 2019). DDR5 was out but super expensive. I had a mid-range ITX build for productivity and light gaming that I'm mostly still happy with.

I mostly want to get a 4090, which isn't going to work in my current setup. I need to build a new PC from the ground up to support that (no, not sticking to SFF).

In my 20+ years building PCs for myself, I've found that "future-proofing" isn't a thing. There is great benefit in not buying the latest greatest tech that goes beyond the sometimes ridiculous premiums. It's like with video game consoles – the last generation of games made for the console are technically far superior to launch games because programmers know how to utilize the hardware better.

If you buy things at launch, be prepared for a rough start and keep a backup of data but better a whole working system. If you rely on one PC to make your living, buy reliable not bleeding edge and assume that upgrades aren't going to happen.

  • It's a year later – yes you should.

  • I’m happy with 5800x3d. I kept same mobo. Just cpu and gpu and and I play at 2k at no less than 150fps on most games high settings. And I am waiting on 15 gen Intel or 8000 amd.

  • BE CAREFUL I FOUND THE PROBLEM BUT THIS MUST BE SEEN FROM A TECHNICIAN ITS THE PINS ON AM5 SOCKET!!!!!!! YOU HAVE AS MANY PROBLEMS BECAUSE THERE IS A PIN SOMEWHERE IN THIS SOC BENT AS IT WAS ON MY ASUS PRIME 670E PRO IT WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MARK TAKE A MAGNIFIER AND CHECK IT AGAIN AND AGAIN….. THE PIN WAS BENT TO THE OUTER POSITION A BIT SO DON'T TRY TO GET IT WRIGHT IF DON'T KNOW HOW !!!!!! AND I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DIDN'T CHECK IT IN MANUFACTURING PROCESS.AFTER I GET IT WELL DONE THE SYSTEM WAS RUNNING FAST AND SMOOTH WITH MY RYZEN 7900X POST AND RUN IN 10 SECONDS!!!! YOU CAN TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOUR PHONE CLOSE ENOUGH AND THEN ZOOM IT THE MB WAS KNEW AND UNOPENED THE PLASTIC COVER YOU DON'T HAVE TO SQUEEZE IT TO OPEN!!!!!!! PUT FIRST THE PROCESSOR AND THEN TAKE IT OUT GENTLY .IT IS WAY MORE FASTER THAN AM4 .THERE ARE SOME FALSE DIRECTIONS IN YOU TUBE BE CAREFULL!!!!!

  • Right now, for me AM4 and AM5 is the same price. Makes no sense to buy AM4 but I really have no patience to take care of bugs and issues.

  • My only doubt is should I buy a 5800x3d or a 7800x3d. Is it worth right now for the upgrade? I don't plan to upgrade again maybe in 4-5 years. Any suggestions?

  • i just bought a am5 cpu and mobo. should i download chipsets and bios first before upgrading? or it is not necessary and out of the box installation is safe and recommended?

  • Watching this in 9/2023 AM5 is in my near future.

  • I am on am4 right now with the asus rog strix b550-plus board. I have the 5600 and 6700xt and enjoy gaming with the best of em. I don't do alot with Ray tracing as I don't really care about that too much. However a little is nice. So amd is perfect for me. I am currently designing the amd am5 setup right now and going to buy it when I'm done doing the legwork on what to look for. Doing the tgermaltake tower 200 and air coolers with the new 8k series coming out. I was about to buy the 7800x3d but then found out about the 8k series. So I'm going to wait a bit. Still getting my msi board and power supply and case. And the m.2 ssd. Everything not affected by cpu for now in case they wind up being better by a long shot. I do more than just game. Such as Netflix and YouTube and static gaming

  • Can we get a updated vid on ddr5 even if jay can’t do it please 🙏

  • So this Video got recorded a year ago. Is there Updates to am5 thats IT IS more worth to chose am5 over am4?

  • It's 2024 now I think it's safer now but planing to jump from my dell optiplex 7040 one peace at a time am 6 will probobly be out by the time I get her built

  • Have we reached the inflection point where AM5 is now essential for longevity of your system looking at CPU upgrades down the line?

  • And here we are today, waiting for zen5 with ai support. Old stuff ist not an option

  • I watch a lot of pc repair video's and AMD cpu's seem to die the most. So I stick with Intel.

  • no if you buy when it cost too much and you have amd4. think apple

  • just read an article that there will be an am5+ not so far in the future. so i basically bought am5 thinking it supports 4 to 5 cpu gens. board broke after 6 months. just last week i finally replaced it, only to now learn that i need to upgrade it again when 9000 series come out?! with all the issues i had with am5 and now they also go the intel road motherboard wise, i will just ditch amd and go back to intel.

  • Watching this in March 2024 wondering if it's late enough in the game to upgrade from my AM4 x570 chipset platform or just upgrade the CPU from 3800x to the 5950x.

  • I'm a year behind but recently adopted the AM5 socket, replacing my AM3+ Phenom 2. So far, the teething problems are mostly gone, besides the inability to use 4 sticks of RAM easily.

  • I'm rocking a 3700x and a 3080 Ti with 32GB Ram and it runs perfectly. To get the best out of my system, I'd probably upgrade the CPU to 3800x and I think I'll just rest until there is stability on AM5. Anyone got any thoughts?

  • I went with an X 670 gigabyte board a ryzen 9 7900 x3d and 64 gigs of gskill trident z rgb ram and a xfx rx6800xt gpu, and have had zero issues….blazing sick fast all games on 4k ultra with 90fps+

  • this is the reason i didnt move to am5 that fast. im staying with my 5900x and 4000 ram with 7900xtx which is still great. I heard we will get new thing into second half…lets see

  • Watching this one year later, I think I'm waiting for Intel 15th gen.
