Title: The Case Against Buying New Graphics Cards Amidst Global Shortage
In the face of the ongoing global shortage of graphics cards, a recent article urges consumers to reconsider their plans to purchase new graphics cards. The article, published by TechRadar, highlights the current scarcity of these components due to a combination of factors, including increased demand for gaming and cryptocurrency mining.
The shortage has led to a significant increase in prices, with some graphics cards selling for double or even triple their original retail price. This has left many consumers frustrated and struggling to find affordable options. The article argues that, given these circumstances, it may be wiser to hold off on purchasing new graphics cards until the market stabilizes.
However, it's important to note that this information is not entirely new. Reports of the graphics card shortage have been circulating since early 2021. What makes this article relevant is its timeliness and the practical advice it offers to consumers who are currently in the market for a new graphics card.
For those who are still intent on upgrading their graphics cards, the article suggests considering refurbished or second-hand options. It also advises keeping an eye on the market for potential price drops or restocks.
In conclusion, the ongoing global shortage of graphics cards has led to increased prices and frustration for consumers. The article urges readers to reconsider their plans to purchase new graphics cards and offers practical advice for those who still wish to upgrade. While the information in the article is not entirely new, its relevance lies in its timeliness and practical advice for consumers in the current market.

9:04 exactly this. I was planning to the 4070 super coz it was just enough for my standards (1440p 60 fps) but it only had 12 gb vram. Then I went to the 4070 ti super but it was 800$ for just 4070 ti performance with 4 extra gigs of vram. Then I thought might as well get the 4080 super but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that extra 200~250$. It was too much to be spending on a gaming accessory. Ended up going for 4070 ti super for 900$ with tax. I hate what this market has become.
Me with a gtx 1070
If in EUA it is so expensive, imagine in México 🙁
Nvidia's line up is like Apple's MacBook's and unless you go shopping with tight budget you always end up higher tier than what you initially went for.
I bought a 4080s, upgraded from a 3080. Was 1500 tax in. Great value
I don’t see anything wrong with getting a 7900xt or xtx. Cheaper than nvidias poorly constructed 4090. 24gb vram which is at least good for another 5 years perhaps. Nobody I know turns on ray tracing anyway, and if you do even on a 4090 your getting 40-60 fps unless you turn on fake frames dlss.
Pretty much everything you say is spot on. How I solve this problem when I realized the industry was going in this direction, is save until you can build ( if you choose to build at all these days, and 40+ I'm learning these young folks don't build pcs any more) with premium 2 year old hardware that is slated for 5-10yr industry adoption ( so you get your money worth/use out of the product). I just late adopt when I upgrade, and then hold. My last current build(2016'ish) is pumped up LGA2011-3 arch, was using a gtx 970 until this past weekend, bumped up to a 4060ti..the cost performance crossover was oct 2023''ish, so sure I spend for the 4060ti a pretty penny, but I actual 'won' regarding this engineering obsolescence game they play. Or, at least I think I won this time. This is how I fight the system building pc since the 90s.
It used to be you bought a new card for a huge frame boost, now you're talking about literal frames in the single digits for 200 dollars more!
Man, im just going to keep playing my old games backlog for awhile. Get the most out of my 1080ti instead of spending so much money to play 1-3 new games in my busy life.
Oh yeah, i forgot. Inflation. Another construct by rich people who have lost touch with reality. The 4090 is astronomical in pricing.
I still have old graphics card no money for newest one.😊
I'm sorry but I might buy the 3060 for graphics programming, I've never had a card that could really play AAA games.
For a short while now I have been contemplating on soon upgrading my GPU simply because I know games from here on out are going to eat VRAM. My 8GB 3070 has been doing me well but I just don't know how much longer it will be able to continue to run high demand games on high settings.
I like when guys that always will have free top end cards from brands gifts saying to as what we should buy money wise and how wrong are prices are, If you just to free hi end stuff then for sure you dont want to pay for stuff you have for free haha. Some of as just wants best we can have not only with money to productivity ratio but just to have it and enjoying.
Could you guys remove the "The WAN Show banner"? I really want to watch the full streams/LMG Clips, but I don't want my OLED to get burn-in. As tech enthusiasts, shouldn't this be something your channel takes into considerations???
The 4070 Super not having 16GB of VRAM is a slap in the face.
A 3080 is like 400 dollars used right now
Why is there 2 people here when only one is talking 99 percent of the time…..O it's Linus.
Linus easy to say when you have all the hardware you need at your disposal.
I mean… my 1080ti hasn't failed me yet. I'm probably just going to chill here forever playing all the older games that I never got around to. The prices for newer hardware can do whatever they want, because I'm not buying anyway. Besides, I'd only need mo' powah to play future AAA games and time is too precious to spend on that slop. Microtransactions, always-online, mandatory login, forced arbitration, denuvo, woke lecturing, anti-fun censorship, Karens as moderators, and the decline of the single player campaign have chased me away. AA and indie is where it's at right now and it looks like that'll hold true into the foreseeable future. I'd be fine if graphics never advanced past Final Fantasy XIII and you don't need a maxed-out rig to play Code Vein either. Both look great in their own way, but can be run on outdated hardware. AAA doesn't see gamers as customers anymore. We are merely consumers who are necessary in order to market to investors who just want to milk gamers for money as often as possible. If they want to go back to making a lower budget single player game that doesn't need to hit your wallet repeatedly in order to make a profit, then I'll give them another shot.

hell yea .. i took your advice i just bought a used 4090 oc guy said he never even played a game on it….. all he used it for was mine crypto for the last year only cost me 1000 bux
I've been looking for used cards for entry level graphic cards rtx series due to low budget. But people ask near new if not more then the new price really often that it makes it not worth the risk.
I buckled and bought a 4090. I wont be buying anymore liabilities at this point. Being possessed by the tech itch is baked into our genetic code. But it can subvert our soul. Once I realized that it died in me… Just as code is a language that transmits information, God works in mysterious ways like that. Very interesting duality.

Yeah, I bought a used PC with a 4070 inside but I would have never bought one new. I wouldn't have even bought that PC if I wasn't still running a 970 at that time. Upgrading at this point really sucked. A 1080ti while greater value at the time is now also 7 years old. The 2000 series while not terrible themselves could barely run RT which was their justification. The 3000 series while great cards weren't available for MSRP still sell close to your 4000 equivalents in price. Let's hope that the 5070 has more than 16GB of VRAM and is cheaper than 500$
Of cuz they are getting more expensive, GPU is not for gaming anymore. chip manufacturing is at bottlenecks with data centre and AI etc all buying piles of chips at TSM.
At the end it's good to have so many cards available and you don't have to buy the latest cards to get decent performance anymore. The only exception would be 4K gaming which still suck at the moment.
buy a gen and skip a gen has always been my rule. i got my 3080ti during the shortage so it cost me more than what a 3090 is going for soooo im making it last two gens because of that.
