AMD vs. Intel: Which Should YOU Choose in 2024?

AMD vs. Intel: Which Should YOU Choose in 2024?

A Quick Overview

When it comes to choosing a CPU for your next PC build or upgrade, the age-old question arises: AMD or Intel? Both CPU manufacturers have been duking it out for decades, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. As we look towards 2024, let’s explore the current landscape and help you make an informed decision.

Performance

In terms of raw performance, Intel processors are generally regarded as being slightly ahead in single-core performance. However, AMD CPUs excel in multi-core tasks, thanks to their larger core counts and better value for money.

Price

AMD has a reputation for offering more bang for your buck. Even their high-end Ryzen CPUs cost significantly less than their Intel counterparts while still offering competitive performance. For budget-conscious consumers, this can be a deciding factor.

Gaming

For gaming, both AMD and Intel CPUs perform well. The real question is which CPU will pair best with your graphics card. AMD’s Ryzen CPUs often work well with Nvidia graphics cards, whereas Intel’s processors tend to have better compatibility with AMD graphics cards.

Future Prospects

In 2024, we can expect both companies to continue pushing the boundaries of CPU technology. AMD is expected to focus on improving its Zen 4 architecture, while Intel is rumored to be working on its 10nm+ process and new architectures. The key will be to balance performance, power consumption, and cost.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the choice between AMD and Intel comes down to your specific needs and budget. If you’re a power user or a professional needing high single-core performance, Intel might be the way to go. For gamers or those looking for a balanced, cost-effective solution, AMD is hard to beat. Just remember to consider compatibility with your other components before making your choice.

This HTML article provides a brief overview of the AMD vs. Intel debate in 2024, discussing performance, price, gaming considerations, and future prospects. It concludes by reminding readers to consider their specific needs and hardware compatibility before making a choice.

  • I've had my i5 4590 gtx 970 build since my 15th birthday, 10 years ago! Its treated me amazingly with the shit it had to go through with me lol.
The market has changed and getting back into the PC building world has my brain spinning i was always a nvidia fan until seeing what they did with their newest graphic cards. I'll definitely be doing an AMD build this time around!

  • Every AMD build i have ever made has had issues and niggles and has lasted no more than a few years before i got fed up with the issues and just built an intel.

My last intel system lasted 10 years+ and my current one has been going about 5 years, solid as a rock.

There is a reason servers use intel, they actually work.

  • I went from Ryzen 3700x to 7950x, against some online reviews and many many videos. I've had zero issues. Solid stability and I can do whatever I want in multi-tasking with ECO mode on to add to that. Doesn't throttle and chews through everything. The Efficiency of the CPU in "my" tests have been stellar. The fact that I can run Eco mode, lose maybe 5-10% of nearly unnoticeable performance, run my equipment on a lighter draw and get solid performance is great. There's videos that support this.

No flack to Intel. I thought about 14900k but at the time, I decided to go to a Full ATX instead of a MIcro and there were no good boards and board cost was too questionable. I got a great deal on my CPU and MB and I have zero regrets at this time. Probably will go back to Intel because I like to go back and forth over the years.

  • Itโ€™s tough cuz amd is soooo good but Iโ€™ve always found the intels to be better for reliability and better software

  • Ryzen 7000 series are running hot in the top tier CPUs and it was proven they are not more energy efficient if you use them unregularly what is the 90% of cases. Also Intel 13th and 14th top tier CPUs has serious issues not resolved making both sides not cleaned for final stage and clearly were russhed out. Also considering Ryzen 5000 series the cheapest CPUs with actual performance are 5600 and 5600X wich are now more expensive from Intel 12th gen making them absolute no sense purchase. The best purchase is intel 12th gen second hand with remaining warranty. It has amazing productivity at decent price, and except 12900k the rest of the line are rock solid. About AM5, trust me you do not have upgradability with that platform just because when they release the Ryzen 8000 series your current AM5 board will be obsolete and you will want new motherboard for the new Ryzen 8000 series no mater that is still AM5, maybe if you buy now 1000$ AM5 you can keep it for the next gen Ryzen CPUs but I can't see that happening. So, go for what you can find the cheapest on the second hand market with remaining warranty from Intel 12th gen(12100f/12400f for gaming and 12600kf/12700 for productivity work). Redirect rest of the money you would of spend for decent 2 TB SSD Gen4 with 7000 mb/s speeds, nice RTX 4060 or better and nice RAM. ATM 12600KF is under 200$ brand new and you can pair it with decent enough 120$ B760/B660 boards hek even 65$ MSI pro B610 will work fine for gaming/office work with that CPU.

  • i have been using both cpus for a longtime, even the amd gpus so amd is going crazy good in the modern time, but intel is just better everyone that used as an example an amd gpu knows that the lifespan of amd stuff is way shorter then intel&Nvidia

  • i sold my 14700K and bought 78003xd because my curiousness was to strong. i kinda regret it.I saw very very low benefit in gaming if any. Only nice thing is, it consumes much less power. But for whatever reason i don't trust this company as much as Inte. Maybe because i hat bad experience with 7900x when it launched. i will go back to Intel for my next.

  • bro I need some information abt those pc cases on the background they look doppee

  • Been using both for a long time. Intel for the last few builds. Now going back to AMD. The ryzen 7000 series looks pretty delicious

  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D vs Intel i5 13600k

  • Any thoughts on the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS for gaming laptops? I've always gone with intel but I've heard that AMD has better temps which i think is important especially for laptops. Are boot times long for AMD laptops as well? Thank you..

  • I have two Ryzen laptops and a desktop I built back when 13700k came out that I swapped for a 14900k. Love em all! Looking forward to intel getting more efficient. Will be nice if intel can get even close to what AMD does efficiency wise. I love the battle going back and forth. Probably helps us get things a lil cheaper due to competition..

  • what a joke on intel cpu as more & more users are experiencing heat and unstable issues on their cpu (current gen)….

  • AMD wonโ€™t crash your sims 3 immediately after starting it. I got (2023 build) AMD ryzen 9 APU: 8 core / 16 thread @ 5.2 GHZ with an RTX 4060 and 16 GB DDR5(6,400 MHz) $1,600

  • Intel 14th gen is a dead end upgrade to be replaced by a new socket CPU. Zen 5 is a boon for AM5 CPU upgrade,

  • Great! I'm ordering the i7-14700K now. Thanks for confirming my choice!

  • I been thinking of amd but the test are scaring me I keep but not having to change the socket will save me money in the long run I want to see if amd has changed

  • AMD are still buggy, intel 14th gen are unreliable and fall apart (ive lost two 14th gen chips on default settings in just 6 wekks use on two different Asus boards)
sadly its about even now for me.

  • What is wrong with APUs? the Ryzen 7840HS is a fantastic chip. They are great for small entertainment system PCs, Display boards that have a high graphics workload but don't have the room or wattage for a dedicated GPU, They are great in lightweight-low-wattage laptops, or small discrete PCs that need "SOME" GPU ability but lack the wattage or cooling ability for their use case.
High wattage equals high heat and shorter machine life span. Not every PC tower needs an i9 or Ryzen 9….
I have users that have to take their laptops to the middle east where it is 110 degrees in the shade AND their laptops need to be able to run engineering workloads. There no Intel chips I trust in these cases, but the AMD Ryzen APUs perform very well since they are low wattage, they are easier to cool but they can still perform 3D CAD workloads.

  • The Ryzen 7800X3D is a beast of a chip. even if you don't need to do 3D work, that massive L3 cache just makes the whole thing run smooth as silk.

  • I'm looking for a new laptop. I do gaming (mostly old school from Atari to PS2 to Xbox 360) and video editing on it. I also do photography and graphic design. What would be a good system for my specifications?

  • You might consider contacting me and learning about Ryzen CPUs, before you pontificate.

  • In which universe is Intel a good recommendation?

There are niche use cases (Adobe) where that is defensible, otherwise I wouldn't recommend any Intel CPU even to my worst enemy (well maybe then).

  • Now since games are multi core dependent. Its not so much about single core performance as it is about having a complete package deal thing. And having extra cache is an absolute must. Both companies are in a conspiracy together to make the most money out of consumers. Otherwise intel would have already added more cache as well.

  • Do you think you could be more specific than โ€œlittle weird issuesโ€?

  • this didnt age well. the fix doesnt work, the new degrading intel cpu's are crap with no resale value.

  • How are you choosing intel i9 when you say it has stability issues and itโ€™s crashing games ?

  • My AM5 mobo (with a Ryzen 9 7950x3d) boots up asap. No 45 seconds boot time

  • Four months later and intel cpu's are failing left and right. Only one choice now.

  • That's because JayzTwoCents knows jack about AMD Ryzen.

Example, he delidded his 7950X, put on liquid metal, did direct die cooling.

I have done none of those things, and I have a 360 rad AIO. I do however know how to configure Ryzen, and not only were (are) my CB R23 results better than his, my temp at full CineBench multicore load is FIVE DEGREES LOWER than what he could achieve.

  • what should i go amd or intel its just strait for gaming like call of duty gta rainbow six siege and like forza and nothing else besides some sport streaming

  • The reason why intel crashes games on launch is because of speedstep and the setting below it in bios

  • I feel like this is an Android vs IPhone video/debate. You buy Android (Ryzen) if you want all the features and newest tech, you buy IPhone (Intel) if you wanna say you got the newest intel and be in the "IPhone/Intel" club with old tech. Probably wrong tho, just how it seems.

  • Iโ€™m thinking of building my first pc by August and I plan on building a pc good for both gaming and content creation. I want a cpu able to run games like cod at roughly around 200fps at 1440p give or take maybe 180 fps roughly minimum, and capable of streaming and editing YouTube videos and thumbnails preferably at 1440p as well but it DOESNT have to be 4k or 2160p. What would be a good cpu for that? I was looking at the and Ryzen 7 7800x3d I think itโ€™s called and the intel core i7 14700k

  • Intel sucks they run unreasonably hot never go for an intel chip on laptop otherwise be ready for toasted hands ๐Ÿ™Œ

  • I canโ€™t say I care about gaming too much, but I certainly hope to get tons of CPU performance, especially on fewer / single cores, WITHOUT turning my PC into a heat danger zone.

  • Thank you for this video and for the fix you posted on x. I was having a hard time deciding between amd and intel for my new build especially with mix reviews for the new intel 14th gen that I have seen but since there is a fix I think ill be going with intel i9

  • Which one you recommend me to buy only for video editing premiere pro ?

  • when i'm back up my files simply from hdd to extern hdd it says *lack of memory (RAM) even i have 32 gb ddr5 (mainboard gigabyte x670e pro x) never had that on Intel, currently running 7800x3d

  • what's the best for watching youtube while playing the game?
i tend to multi task a lot while playing the game and i want the best experience.
